Influencing the EU Agenda
Client: The Skin Care Campaign
Light for all

The EU is looking to replace traditional light bulbs with green ones by 2011, creating a serious problem for those with light sensitivity including ‘burning’, rashes and migraine.

Ash worked with the Skin Care Campaign, the umbrella organisation for patient support groups with skin conditions, to develop the ‘Light for All’ campaign which used media pressure to target the UK Government to encourage the provision of lighting for people with light sensitivity.

Coverage secured in national newspapers, magazines, broadcast and online, supported public affairs work and, in May 2008, resulted in MPs agreeing to take the campaign to the EU. Then in Oct ’08 the Government’s public health safety watchdog issued ‘precautionary advice’ on the levels of ultraviolet radiation that energy saving light bulbs emit.
