Why ‘Salmon Fishing’ is good news for the Yemen

Since the film Salmon Fishing in the Yemen leapt onto the UK’s cinema screens, the Yemen Tourist Board has been swamped by enquiries from keen Salmon fishing fans. So much so that the Yemen tourist board has let the world know that while there’s plenty of sea fishing to enjoy, the Yemen’s climate is not good for Salmon. But it is good for tourists and this film is putting Yemen on the tourist map.

Why Amnesty International’s Media Awards are so important…

Amnesty International’s Media Awards next week couldn’t come at a better time. The headlines on the Leveson Inquiry would have us all believe that journalism is solely about carrying out underhand even criminal activities to generate salacious stories. Thankfully, here we have a different storyline; a set of awards which acknowledges the contribution of journalists to the public awareness of human rights issues. This year, they will remember a terrific example: Marie Colvin, the Sunday Times war correspondent, who was killed reporting on the civil war in Homs, Syria.
